fall is here :)

While Long Island is not my number one choice to live, I must say that being here in the fall is quite relaxing. My mother, since I was born, has always taken the time to make our house match the seasons, and this year is no different. Even though I am the only one living in the house out of my four siblings ((at the moment)), she knows that when any of us show up, one of the things that brings us home is the freshly baked pumpkin bread, assortment of freshly baked muffins, and the fall decorations that scatter the house. The fire place has scarcrows, pumpkins, fall fairies, golden ribbons, golden leaves, and fake bristles of trees. Each table has a cloth with autumn decor, and on top are various salt and pepper shakers in shapes of ghosts, acorns, pumpkins, and candles in decorative holders. This year to top off all of these decorations and keep the house more, well homey, I bought some candles - one is Spiced Pumpkin from village candles -and it smells delectable! Upon walking into the room, you are flooded with the scent of pumpkin pie (and who doesnt enjoy that?)... it is within these little details that joy is brought not only to the ones living here, but those who come to visit. Aromas awaken our senses and actually activate chemicals in our brain to respond, and so they arouse us and help us to feel again.

The leaves are changing, the air is fresh, and I wake up chilly and not wanting to get out from under my covers. I look forward to days in the city, and returning home to a nice warm bed, a fireplace, and my doggy.

"Delicious autumn! My very soul is wedded to it, and if I were a bird I would fly about the earth seeking the successive autumns." - George Eliot

Remain happy and healthy, and forever smelling the aromas of nature
